the snow lightened up by the time he saw the other path join his. both led to the edge of the forest where stood a fence. as he gazed through the arch, what seemed like a graveyard rapidly blurred into a thick expanse of space. stars and galaxies painted the canvas where a gate once stood. a figure loomed beneath the arch draped by a dark hooded cloak. instead of a face, the celestial painting continued inside the hood. the scout was beckoned in by the figure through the door and into his garden…
